This position is responsible for periodontical surgical chair-side dental assistance to the residents and faculty in the Graduate and Dental Faculty Practice clinics. This includes implant and surgical tray assembly and disassembly, exposing, processing and mounting radiographs, assisting with full mouth photos and charting. This position shares responsibility in assuring that operatories are stocked appropriately to perform scheduled procedures and that supplies and materials are ordered in a timely fashion, and the clinic inventory of supplies and materials is accurate and current. This position may orient other DA’s or dental assistant students to the assisting responsibilities in the clinics.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and completion of an accredited dental assisting program; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Applicants should be able to anticipate necessary materials, equipment, etc. for scheduled treatment procedures including surgeries and be able to manipulate dental materials correctly. Applicants should be able to follow proper procedures to order/obtain necessary supplies, materials and equipment. All applicants must be able to follow School procedures regarding sterilization, to keep instruments in good working condition, and to maintain treatment rooms and other clinic areas per the School and OSHA’s infection control and other standards.
Minimum of 2 years of chair-side dental assisting experience strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience with periodontal maintenance and treatment of medically compromised patients, as well as advanced knowledge and interest in non-surgical treatment of periodontal diseases and conditions.
