*Job Summary: *
The dental hygienist has responsibility for providing direct patient care at the community outreach clinics, which includes: prophylaxis and fluoride treatment, fluoride varnish, scaling, root planing, periodontal charting, sealants, and x-rays. They are responsible for appointing recall patients and follow up. Uses available resources to assist in day-to-day operations and to produce quality products/services.
Provide prophylaxis and fluoride treatment; fluoride varnish; scaling and root planing; periodontal charting; obtain a comprehensive medical and dental health history; complete an oral facial examination; probe for and assess periodontal disease; take x-rays; place sealants; individualize oral hygiene instruction and provide dietary counseling; assist dentist and dental residents, as needed. Helps in sterilization when needed.
Provide clerical support and manage ongoing recall system as appropriate. Completes QA record review forms and monthly medical emergency kit inspection log and glucometer.
Act as a resource person to parents, teachers, nurses, and other school officials. Represents the Department of Community Dentistry in the community, schools, day care centers, and at health fairs.
Conduct community, individual, and classroom education sessions as appropriate. Provides classroom education to all Pre-K and Kindergarten classes.
Participate in department research and screening projects as needed. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, project coordination, data recording and management, clinical activities related to projects, such as prophylaxis, plaque and saliva collection, patient screening, and distribution of patient products.
Additional duties as necessary.
Graduate of dental hygiene program and New York State Dental Hygiene license required. Two to three years' dental hygiene experience required. NYS License in Dental Hygiene required.
