Job Summary The Department of Dentistry at Denver Health (DH) is recruiting for a Team Leader/Medical Director General Dentist to join our Westside Family Health Clinic. The Westside clinic at DH has been providing care to Denver residents for over fifty years. The successful candidate will have 3+ years experience as a General Dentist and previous management experience of other dental providers. The Westside Dental Clinic team consists of 3 dentists - 2 general dentists and 1 pediatric dental specialist, 1 dental hygienist, 6 dental assistants and 2 front office staff members. The Team Leader will be responsible for supervision of the provider staff and manage the day to day operations of the dental clinic.
Clinical responsibilities include: Under minimal supervision, diagnose, prevent, and treat problems with teeth or mouth tissue. Remove decay, fill cavities, examine x-rays, place protective plastic sealants on children's teeth, straighten teeth, and repair fractured teeth. Perform non-complex Endodontic and Oral Surgery Procedures. Perform corrective surgery on gums and supporting bones to treat gum diseases. Extract teeth and make models and measurements for dentures to replace missing teeth. Provide instruction on diet, brushing, flossing, the use of fluorides, and other aspects of dental care. Administer anesthetics and write prescriptions for antibiotics and other medications.

Minimum Qualifications Education: Graduate from an accredited school of dentistry. Experience: Typically more than three years of experience after completion of education. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of the principles, standard practices, and techniques of dentistry sufficient to be able to provide dental care and information regarding preventative dentistry and oral hygiene. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, objectives, safety and infection control standards sufficient to be able to maintain the expected level of efficiency. Skill in exercising initiative, judgement, and decision making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives. Skill in diagnosing dental problems and developing treatment plans. Skill in communicating and presenting factual information related to the work assignment. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, organizations and the public. Skill in maintaining and organizing departmental records, records, reports and files. Skill in adapting new information relative to the work assignment through educational seminars, meetings, and staff meetings. Certificate/License/Registration: Current Colorado dental licenses. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: List each job duty and responsibility that is essential to performing the job successfully, efficiently and safely. 64% Performs professional dental care which includes restorative dentistry, exodentia, visual examination of patient's oral cavity, analyzing results of x-rays, other diagnostic procedures, removal of decay teeth, extract or restore teeth. 5% Prepares charts and determines the most feasible plan for treatment. Maintains charts and treatment plans and completes required reports. 5% Treat exposure of pulp by pulp capping, removal of pulp from pulp chamber, or root canal, using dental instruments. 5% Design, make, and fit prosthodontic appliances such as space maintainers, bridges, and dentures, or write fabrication instructions or prescriptions for denturists and dental technicians. Dentist B and Page 2 of 3 DHHM8003 3% Administer anesthetics to limit the amount of pain experienced by patient during procedure. 3% Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. 2% Educates patients regarding preventative dentistry and oral hygiene. Treats diseases of teeth, gum and mouth with appropriate medication. 2% Examine teeth, gum and related tissues, using dental instruments, x-ray and other diagnostic equipment, to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and plan appropriate treatments. 2% Formulate plan of treatment for patient's teeth and mouth tissues. 2% Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums and related oral structures, and provide preventive and corrective services. 2% Advise and instruct patients regarding preventive dental care, the causes and treatment of dental problems, and oral health care services. 2% Write prescriptions for antibiotics and other medications. 2% Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, receiving current literature, and attending in-service meetings and workshops. Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications.
